Introduction

Space Force Quest is a dynamic and immersive STEM experience designed to ignite curiosity and critical thinking in Year 7 and 8 students. Through hands-on challenges, coding missions, and interactive simulations, students explore key physics concepts including balanced and unbalanced forces, Newton’s Laws of Motion, momentum, energy transfer, and simple machines — all within the exciting theme of space exploration.

Program Overview

1. Drone Rescue Mission

Students take on the role of Mars mission engineers, coding drones to complete a high-stakes rescue mission. After a payload supply drop goes off course due to Martian winds, students must program their drone to locate and deliver the supplies to the Mars base. Students explore the principles of balanced and unbalanced forces, applying Newton’s Laws of Motion to understand how flight and directional control are achieved.

 

2. Space Clean Up

Using Sphero robots, students simulate the urgent task of cleaning up space debris orbiting Earth. By applying principles of momentum and motion, they program their robots to navigate and collect “space trash,” learning how physics is essential to maintaining safe orbits and protecting satellites.

 

3. Space Impact

In this creative engineering challenge, students explore simple machines and energy transfers through a Rube Goldberg-style activity. Using VR technology and CoSpaces/DelightX, learners design and simulate a rocket launch sequence powered by chain reactions. This program blends digital design with physics concepts in a highly engaging format.
